Platfom & Issues
I've highlighted some of my positions on specific issues. However, this list is not exclusive. Please feel to reach out to me if you want to know my position on a specific issue of concern that I haven't specifically addressed.
Miami-Dade County Sheriff

In 2024, Miami-Dade County will be electing a Sheriff. The Sheriff will have jurisdiction over the entire county. Although city law enforcement officers will still have jurisdiction over their municipality, the new Sheriff will have joint jurisdiction if needed.

However, the major question involves the residents that reside in unincorporated Miami-Dade county. DISTRICT 10 is totally unincorporated and the Safety and Security of District 10 is of utmost importance to me. This is the reason I decided to run for District 10 Commissioner.
Currently, Miami-Dade County Commissioners passed a plan to leave certain services with the county, while other services will be moved to the newly elected Sheriff.
However, in reality this is the intent of the current commissioners. This is a fluid situation and after a sheriff is elected, that may not remain the same, especially if it involves litigation.
I support Mayor Levine Cava and the current commissioners' plan to maintain control of certain services and turning over other services to the Sheriff. However, my concern is not only what happens when the Sheriff is elected but during the transition period. Who will respond to an emergency call?
District 10 deserves a Commissioner who will keep your safety and security in the forefront and who works to ensure that the residents of District 10 do not suffer or lose any services. That's what I pledge I will do.
Protecting communities and building trust by reforming our criminal justice system is important to me. And we can't create trust without holding those in power accountable for their actions.
Climate Change/Transportation

Miami-Dade County has been a leader in the country in addressing environmental issues. We have made great progress in changing our environmental views. However, one of our major setbacks has been and still is in addressing countywide flooding issues. I believe we must use innovative ideas to address this matter.
Transportation
It's hard to believe that a cosmopolitan county still doesn't have an affordable rail transportation system that provides accessibility to the West and South residents in Miami-Dade County. Those residents are at a disadvantage with employment opportunities and to the county services. I will do everything possible to work with our state and federal partners to receive funding to expand our rail services in Miami-Dade County.
Mental Health

Miami-Dade County must provide more access and availability to mental health providers, especially to those in our lower income communities. In addition, I believe it is imperative for the elected officials to initiate mental health awareness campaign and promote educational training to the districts and county as a whole.
I advocate for new training for law enforcement combined with de-escalation techniques in dealing with issues that might be related to mental health. I also believe it is important to remove the stigma surrounding mental health and law enforcement officers ability to seek help. This honorable profession comes with on the job challenges and must be addressed by law enforcement leadership.
Affordable Housing/ Homeowners insurance

Miami-Dade County is rated highest in the county when it comes to affordable housing and lack of inventory. I support a minimum requirement placed on all building permits requiring builders to build a percentage of affordable housing as well as luxury homes.
I also support a temporary freeze on rental increases until we have this crises under control.

Homeowners Insurance
The cost of homeowners's insurance is truly ridiculous in Miami-Dade County in comparison to counties north of us. I urge the Miami Dade Legislative Delegation to push state legislation that would provide Miami-Dade residents equitable policies coverage and premiums. It's unconscionable for a family to choose between paying their mortgage or homeowners insurance.
Social Justice

Our nation’s hate crimes have reached an epidemic level. My slogan of One District, One Community; One County, One Community means just that. One of the great things about this country that set it apart from so many others is our guaranteed freedom to be our authentic selves.
As hate crimes and incidents rise, we need decisive action from concerned community, educational institutions, civic, faith and law enforcement leaders — now more than ever.

I stand firmly against racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim bigotry, and white supremacy in all of its horrific forms.

I support the equal rights protections of all citizens, including communities of Color, immigrants, women, LGBTQ+people, religious minorities, people with disabilities, Native Americans and all who have been discriminated against for generations.

As County Commissioner, I will fight every day for the underrepresented and underserved members of our community. In America, everyone deserves to live in liberty, freedom and peace..
Gun Violence and Crime

Gun violence has become a health crisis in Miami, Florida, and the country. As a former federal agent, I carried a firearm and went through intensive training with all types of weapons.
As an advocate for our constitutional rights including the 2nd amendment, I strongly believe responsible gun ownership and common sense regulation is not only the right position but it is the most compassionate position.
Our children and grandchildren deserve to live in a society where they don’t have to worry about being murdered at school or shot on their way to the local grocery story.
I can assure you, most law enforcement agencies and officers want the weapons of war off the streets. They’re also opposed to open carry laws.

Just like you, once their shift is over law enforcement officers want to go home to their families without being shot by a weapon that their bullet proof vest has absolutely no protection.
Crime
Solving the increased crime rate in our neighborhoods in District 10 requires developing county-wide initiatives and by having deep and meaningful conversations with local community leaders. Finding common sense solutions to our crime rate takes work from all of us.

Dignified Retirement & Health Care

Covid-19 has exposed the importance of equitable health care and the need for attention to all our communities. It is essential to assure those who live on a fixed income that they will receive equitable health care services. This requires working with our public and private local health care providers and making sure that those services are above all equitable to all income levels.
Having been my mother's caregiver, I have first hand knowledge and experience of the importance and the need for a health advocate to all in communities and especially for those on a fixed income.
Innovative and proactive solutions are necessary in order to continue to meet the future demands as more and more baby-boomers', Generation X and millennials are joining the retirement age.
